Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for a drawing to be completed?

Please check the top of the home page to see current wait list updates. When you make an order, you will be placed on the list for that month. I will contact you when it's time to start your drawing. Completion time depends on the size, amount of detail, and how many subjects are being drawn. For example, a 5x7 inch drawing of one face could be drawn in about 2 days. Whereas a 16x20 with 5 faces would take at least 2 weeks. Also note that colored pencil portraits take much longer to draw than graphite portraits.

I want something in the photo changed in the portrait, can you do that?

I can only draw what I see in the photo. However, if there is something minor that needs to be changed I can do that for you. Examples would be fixing hair/fur, eyes, skin, teeth, or making small alterations to what they are wearing. Be sure to let me know if there are any requests when you email your photo. Please also know that it is not possible for me to take features from multiple photos to "create" a face.

Can you combine seperate photos to make a portrait of two or more people/animals?

Yes! If you have two or more individual pictures that you would like combined into one drawing, that is absolutely possible.

What photo should I submit? Can you use a hard printed copy, or should it be digital?

A high resolution digital photo works best. A printed photograph would be fine to use especially if it is large and clear (the picture will be returned to you). I am only able to draw what I can see in the picture. Therefore the clearer the photo, the better the artwork will be. If you need help choosing a photo, I would be happy to give my opinion!

Do I get to see the drawing before I buy it?

Of course! When the drawing is almost done, I will email you a picture of it for your approval. I can also give you updates during the drawing process if you like. If there is anything you would like altered or added please let me know.

How do I pay for my drawing?

After you have approved the drawing, I will email you an invoice. You may then pay by credit card/PayPal through a link in that email. If you prefer to mail a check to me, that is an option as well.

Does the drawing come framed?

The drawing will not be framed unless you live locally and request to have it framed at an additional cost. The dimensions of your drawing will determine what size frame it will fit into. For example...if you order an 8x10 inch drawing, it will fit into an 8x10 inch frame or larger frame with an 8x10 inch mat (a mat is preferred for added protection).

Can I collect my drawing in person?

Yes! If you live locally, I would be happy to meet up with you in person.

Will the portrait appear on your website?

It is greatly appreciated when customers allow me to display their portraits on my social media sites and website. I always ask for permission first since some may prefer not to have their portraits online.

What does shipping cost, and will my drawing be safe in the mail?

Shipping prices will vary depending on the size of the drawing and where the order will be shipped to ($5-$20). The artwork will be safely packaged and protected.

What will be included in my drawing?

Drawings of people and animals will include face, neck, and shoulders on a plain background. If you would like a full body portrait and/or a background (landscape or interiors etc.) additional fees may apply. Let me know if you would be interested in these extras and I can give you a quote.

Do you offer gift certificates?

I do! Gift certificates are great for last minute presents or if you're not able to obtain a photo in time. It also gives the recipient an opportunity to be involved in the process. You may purchase a credit for any size portrait (or choose the amount) and I will email you a gift certificate that you can print. If you don't need the certificate right away, I will mail the certificate to you.

What materials do you use?

Only high quality professional materials are used. I use acid free archival cotton paper and lightfast pencils. This is to make sure your artwork lasts for many years to come.

Do you draw on paper or canvas?

Your drawing will be created on flat paper. I do not draw on cavas. However, if you're interested in ordering a cavas print of your drawing I would be happy to help with that.
